Legendary DJ, Erick Morillo, has had his share of troubles recently, from failing to show up to a gig in Long Island, to being escorted off stage at Boston. The most recent episode, at Quincy, Massachusetts’ Ocean Club, found him leaving mid-set, escorted by his management and security, appearing to be under heavy influence from either drugs or alcohol. While these stories made news, unfortunately this is not the first time behavior like this has been talked about in the industry, with similar incidents effecting his performances and his career.
After canceling the rest of his shows through the end of June, Morillo released a statement today announcing that he is going on hiatus from DJing for a brief period of time. The statement reads as follows:
There comes a time when the body just can’t keep up with the hectic schedule and sleepless nights. Having pushed my body to the limits for many years, the time has come to take a break and refocus my attention on my health and well-being. I plan on returning stronger then ever to my passion of playing music and seeing you dancing on my dance floor. Until then, I like to thank all my fans for your enduring love and support! Hope to see you soon.
While the statement makes no mention of drug or alcohol abuse, we can only imagine what he is going through. Good luck Erick, we wish you well and hope to see you back on the decks and in good health soon.
